Welcome to JabberWonk

We're still blathering on

Jabberwonk is the place to share links to articles on Politics, Social Life and Science. Started in 2004 as "Not This Time George", our site has grown and we rebranded ourselves to take on the bigger fight than just one administration. Now we are set to release the 1st major update to the site since its creation ('bout time, slackers). We are going to be adding new features and trying out some new angles. We are looking to ad a voice for the opposition to express their views also and open up an area for user generated comments. Got an idea, got some feedback, send it to us. We are looking for input.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What the hell is this place?
  • We are an left leaning political on-line community where users can post links to the stories that they find most interesting as they surf the web and even create a blog entry for the link if desired. Those links can then be voted upon by the community for inclusion on the Front Page of the web site.
  • Why Jabberwonk.com?
  • The name stems from the classic poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. As we fight the ideological battle for the soul of our Country on a daily basis against the well-oiled Right-Wing Noise Machine, we take this poem to heart and hunt our foes where ever we may find them. We point out their lies, propaganda and hypocrisy with hopes of slaying the flaming-eyed Jabberwonky with our Vorpal Blade of Truth and go galumphing back victorious with it's manxome head where we shall chortle in our joy over a pint of Beamish.
  • What is the Link Score?
  • Any link posted to our web site is subjected to scoring by the general public. Site viewers can score links from either the framed page's toolbar (if the page can be framed) or from the link comment area. A score of 1 is the lowest, with a 5 being the highest rating a link can get. The link score is display are a string of stars on the page. The more stars the higher the score, and the more stars that spin, the more votes this link has.
  • What is the Gallery?
  • The Gallery shows only the Images from posts that contain them.
  • Why should I register as a User?
  • Registered Users are allowed to post up to 5 links a day in the User Link Area and are allowed to recommend other user's links for inclusion on the Front Page. Registered Users are also allowed to post comments on links. Registered Users get their own home page area that displays just their postings. Registered Users can also display their links on their own web site using a simple javascript snippet.
  • How does a link make it to the Front Page?
  • When your link reaches a "Link Cred Rating" of 100 your link is automatically displayed on the Front Page. When a User recommends your link for the Front Page they lend their "Link Credibility" to the link.
  • What is my "Link Credibility" and how do I improve it?
  • "Link Credibility" is earned by posting good links that make it to the front page. For each link that you post that gets Front Page approval you earn a credibility point. When your credibility rating gets high enough you become "Credentialed" and are granted the power of Front Page posting directly without needing community approval first.
